Anam Cara, My Soul Friend

By Lydia Royce

Anam Cara, My Soul Friend

Anam Cara, my soul friend,

He listens,

When I am silent

And do not want to speak.

Anam Cara, my soul friend

He sees,

When I am unseen,

In the crowd.

Anam cara, my soul friend

Holds

And

Embraces,

When everyone

Steps away.

Anam cara, my soul friend

Touches my pain

Feels it,

Neither fearing the ache,

Nor repulsed by its shame.

Anam cara, my soul friend

Joys over my victories,

My small steps towards healing,

Over my courage

And strength.

He

Is satisfied

In me

And I

In him-

My soul friend,

My Anam Cara.
