To Be Free

By Lydia Royce

To Be Free

For months and years my labour weighed me down,
My body became weary,
My soul grew tired.
There was no respite,
I felt overwhelmed.

But you stretched out your right hand,
My Lord and my God,
You led me out into a beautiful place,
Of rest,
Of wholeness,
Of peace,
And joy.

You healed me through the sneers.
You restored me despite the rejections.
You loved me amidst the loneliness,
And the losses.
You held me through it all.

My arms have gained strength,
My heart emboldened,
My feet walk out,
Into spaces you invite me,
To heal,
To restore,
To love,
And to care

To be free.

This poem is based on Exodus 15: 1-18 and was written during a Psalm writing session.
